Ads

Nope,
No human-sized screens
No high-definition either.
We don’t come in broadsheets or tabloids
Quarter page festivity
Or festive offers.

Yet,
You and I?
We are both just ads.
Flying high,
In a fat opaque bubble
Well, at least we like to think it’s opaque.
Drifting away
To where the sun goes.
The bright, yellow, powerful sun.

Ads?
They sell stuff.
We?
We sell stuff too:
Ourselves.
Make people believe
What we have made ourselves believe
About ourselves.
Brand Image, they call it
Then, little by little
They say we’ll get our way
I just hope it’s before
We sell our souls away.

Yep,
The thumb-rule says
Get the most thumbs-up
And you win.
You sell what they want to buy.
Their acceptance of you is essential
And so we keep running
Running from ourselves
Afraid!
That we may start caring
About accepting ourselves first.

  1. This is good. Really good in the way you’ve meditated on the topic of branding and sales culture. Advertisements tap into our insecurities while constantly creating new ones.
I like these lines the most..
    We sell stuff too:
    Ourselves.
    Make people believe
What we have made ourselves believe
    About ourselves.
